Which visa do you need?
For a degree programme longer than six months, Filipino students normally apply for a national (long-stay) student visa — commonly the Type D student visa. It lets you enter Spain to study and, once there, apply for your student residence card (TIE).
Typical documents
- Completed national visa application form and recent passport photos
- Passport valid for the full period of stay
- Official letter of admission / enrolment from the Spanish institution
- Proof of sufficient funds for your stay (often tied to the IPREM reference amount)
- Proof of accommodation in Spain
- Private health insurance with full coverage in Spain
- Medical certificate confirming you are fit to travel/study
- NBI clearance (criminal record certificate), usually apostilled
- Proof of paid tuition or a scholarship, where applicable
- Visa fee payment
Documents issued in the Philippines often need to be apostilled, and non-English/Spanish documents may need an official translation.
Timeline
Start early. Gathering and apostilling documents takes time, and consulate processing can run from a couple of weeks to a month or more during busy intake periods. As a rule of thumb, begin the visa step as soon as you receive your admission letter.
After you arrive in Spain
If your course lasts longer than six months, you will usually register locally and apply for your student residence card (TIE) within the first weeks after arrival. You may also need to register your address (empadronamiento).
